BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) -- Raymond Anthony scored 18 points and Nashid Beard scored 10 of his 12 points in the second half as Lamar defeated Texas State 78-73 Saturday night.
Lamar (9-4, 1-1 Southland Conference) led 38-33 at halftime, but Texas State (6-7, 0-2) took a 58-57 lead with nine minutes left in the game.
Then Beard gave the Cardinals the lead with a 3-point play on the next possession. After the Bobcats tied the game at 60, Teddy Davis answered with a 3-pointer that put Lamar ahead for good with 7:32 remaining.
Lamar kept its slim lead thanks to Beard, who hit 7-of-8 free throws in the final 6:37.
Texas State's Rory Green came off the bench to score 18 points, Anthony Dill had 14 points and 14 rebounds, and Andre Oupoh chipped in with 13 points.
Davis scored 10 of his 15 points in the second half and Alan Daniels added 13.
Lamar led 46-39 just after halftime, but Texas State went on an 19-11 surge to take its only lead in the second half.
