GREELEY, Colo. (AP) -- Matt Kline scored 17 points as Northern Colorado beat back-to-back Division 1 opponents for the first time in 27 years with an 84-70 victory over Texas-Pan American Saturday night.
Kline buried three 3-pointers and Kirk Archibeque added 16 points and eight rebounds for Northern Colorado (4-18), which beat Montana and Boise State in 1977. Sean Nolen broke the school assist record with his 286th assist.
Alvaidas Gedminas had 16 points and nine rebounds and Eric Montalvo scored 13 points for Texas-Pan American (7-8), which lost its fifth straight game. The Broncos played their eighth straight game without injured leading scorer Sergio Sanchez.
Texas-Pan American shot 27 percent from the field as Kline scored nine points to lead Northern Colorado to a 40-25 halftime lead. The Broncos hit only 1-of-13 shots, allowing Northern Colorado to jump to a 15-5 early lead.
Gedminas came off the bench to score eight points to keep Texas-Pan American close.
Nolen's 3-pointer increased Northern Colorado's lead to 58-38 midway through the second half. Two free throws by Montalvo got Texas-Pan American to within 72-58 with 4:16 left.
