BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- Josh Hare scored 14 points and J. Robert Merritt had 13 to lead Samford to a 79-68 victory over Tennessee State on Saturday.
Hare and Merritt combined to shoot 5-of-8 from 3-point range. The Bulldogs (7-6, 2-0 Ohio Valley Conference) hit 75 percent of 3-point shots in the first half and led 41-28 at halftime.
Jerry Smith and Curtis West scored 11 points for the Bulldogs and Jon Mills had 10.
Wayne Arnold scored 14 for the Tigers (6-10, 1-1 OVC), who led 40-38 in the second half. Tennessee State made 9-of-23 shots from 3-point range, three by Arnold, who hit 50 percent of his 3-point attempts.
