AMHERST, Mass. (AP) -- Jeff Salovski scored a career-high 21 points, including eight in the third overtime, to lift Massachusetts to a 90-86 victory over Xavier on Saturday.
Salovski, a 6-foot-11, 325-pound freshman, hit the last basket of regulation to tie the game at 60-60 and also hit the last two baskets of the second overtime period, tying the game at 78-78 with 10 seconds left after grabbing an offensive rebound.
Salovski shot 9-for-10 from the field and was also tied for the team lead in rebounds with nine.
Massachusetts (7-5, 1-1 Atlantic 10) had five players in double figures. Maurice Maxwell had 16 points nine rebounds and 10 assists, Anthony Anderson added 14 points, including four 3-pointers, Rashuan Freeman scored 12 and Stephane Lasme scored 11.
Anderson's 3-pointer with 3:39 to play in the third overtime put UMass ahead for good, 81-80.
Xavier's Dedrick Finn forced the second overtime when he hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer of the first extra period. The Musketeers (6-5, 0-1) were led by Finn, Justin Doellman and Stanley Burrell, all with 16 points.
The Minutemen never trailed in the first half and led by as many as 10, 30-20. But a four-point play by Finn and a 3-pointer by Burrell pulled Xavier within 32-30 at halftime.
