Baylor at Oklahoma State

Graham, Oklahoma State bounce back with home victory
  •

STILLWATER, Okla.-- Oklahoma State produced the blowout it needed to get its Big 12 title defense back on track.

Joey Graham scored 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds to help the No. 5 Cowboys rebound from their loss to Texas with an 82-53 victory over Baylor on Saturday.

"That game is in the past," Graham said of Oklahoma State's 75-61 loss Monday to the 15th-ranked Longhorns. "We just had to focus on this game and play great defense. We just needed to come out and get the victory."

Freshman JamesOn Curry added 14 points, including 10 in the final 2:16, as the Cowboys (14-2, 4-1 Big 12) won the first game at the newly named Eddie Sutton Court and their 25th consecutive at home.

The floor, installed in 1938 at Gallagher-Iba Arena, was named after Oklahoma State's coach last week. Sutton has 769 victories, good for seventh all time and two ahead of mentor Henry Iba.

Tim Bush led the Bears (9-6, 1-3) with 19 points and Tommy Swanson added 15 despite missing chunks of time with foul trouble. Baylor shot just 30.9 percent from the floor.

"I thought for the most part, it was a 15-point game, and we put forth a good effort," Baylor coach Scott Drew said. "I was disappointed in the way we finished the game, but I was proud of the way we played in the first 35 minutes."

Terrence Crawford's dunk after his steal of Aaron Bruce's pass with 13 minutes left in the game made it 49-34, capping a 7-0 Cowboys run.

Graham hit two free throws and brother Stephen hit another in the spurt. Graham was 4-of-4 from the line, extending his streak to 35 consecutive made free throws dating back to Jan. 3.

Baylor pulled within 10 at 51-41 on Swanson's three-point play with 9:27 left, but the Cowboys again pulled away and finished with a 14-0 run on Curry's two 3-pointers and two layups.

"It was very important for us to come out in the second half and play great basketball because we have been slacking off lately," said Graham, who was 9-of-11 shooting. "Our objective today was to bring a presence to the Big 12. We wanted to let everyone know that we are here."

Oklahoma State started slowly, falling behind 18-11 on Bush's two foul shots 2:52 into the game, but outscored Baylor 19-1 over the next 13 minutes on the way to a 36-24 halftime lead.

Baylor did not hit a field goal for 10:30 during the run, a span of 13 missed shots. The Bears shot just 8-of-26 in the first half, after hitting six of their first nine shots in the game.

Ivan McFarlin scored five points during the spurt and Joey Graham added six, including two fast-break dunks, as the Cowboys reeled off 15 consecutive points.

"I think Oklahoma State is the best team we have played," Bruce said. "They had us under an immense amount of pressure. I didn't think we had that much pressure against Oklahoma or Texas."
