ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) -- Torrell Martin scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Winthrop to an 80-66 victory over Coastal Carolina on Saturday.
The Eagles (14-5, 5-1 Big South Conference) pulled away in the first half and led by 16 at halftime, 47-31. Phillip Williams and James Shuler added 15 points apiece.
Pele Paelay scored 30 points for the Chanticleers (5-13, 2-4), who cut the lead to eight a couple of times in the second half but couldn't get any closer. Jack Leasure added 18 points for Coastal Carolina.
Winthrop shot 47.1 percent (24-for-51) from the field compared with the Chanticleers' 40.4 percent (23-for-57). The Eagles also made 26-of-38 from the free throw line. Coastal Carolina made just 12 of 26 from the line.
