RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Kevin Steenberge led five Richmond players in double figures Saturday as the Spiders took advantage of 26 George Washington turnovers to defeat the Colonials 70-59.

After George Washington took a brief 42-41 lead with 12:17 remaining, the Spiders ran off nine straight points and the Colonials could get no closer than 6. Richmond, (7-9, 2-3 Atlantic 10) hit 11 of 14 free throws in the final 3:09.

The two teams combined for 17 turnovers in the final 10 minutes of the first half. Richmond outscored the Colonials 14-6 over that span to take a 34-26 halftime lead.

The Colonials were ranked in the Top 25 prior to last week's defeat by Massachusetts, dropped to 12-4 and 4-2 with their third straight loss, to Richmond. George Washington has not won in Richmond since the 1979-80 season.

Steenburge had 15 points and Andres Sandoval and Jamaal Scott each scored 12 for the Spiders. J.R. Pinnock led George Washington with 15 points.

The Spiders held T.J. Thompson and Pops Mensah-Bonsu to 8 points each. The two averaged a combined 30 entering the game.
