LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) -- David Dees scored 24 points, including the first six in a late 8-0 run that gave Liberty the lead, and the Flames beat North Carolina-Asheville 72-71 Saturday night for their 13th straight home victory in the Big South.
Liberty (6-11, 4-2) trailed 68-64 with 57 seconds left, but Dees hit a 3-pointer and converted a three-point play after a turnover, giving the Flames a 70-68 lead.
Two free throws by Leo Lightbourne made it 72-68, allowing Liberty to withstand a 3-pointer by K.J. Garland at the buzzer for the Bulldogs (5-12, 2-4).
Lightbourne added 20 points and Larry Blair 11 for the Flames.
The Bulldogs, who outrebounded Liberty 44-30 but cobverted 20 offensive boards into just 16 points, got 15 points each from Garland, Bryan McCullough and Steven Rush.
