ITTA BENA, Miss. (AP) -- Jessie Taylor had 27 points and 10 rebounds and Stanford Speech scored 15, including a 3-pointer midway through the second half to put the game away for Mississippi Valley State in a 70-65 win over Prairie View A&M on Saturday night.
Speech hit a 3-pointer with 8:34 remaining to put Mississippi Valley (5-9, 3-2 Southwestern Athletic Conference) ahead 52-50, a lead the Delta Devils would not surrender. Taylor hit a 3-pointer a minute later to extend the lead to 56-50 with 7:28 left.
Prairie View (2-12, 2-3) led by five, 40-35, with 16:52 remaining.
The Panthers played Mississippi Valley close until the end, but could not cut into the lead after Taylor's basket.
The score was tied at 33 at the half.
Oscar Thompson led Prairie View with 25 points.
