DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Thurman Zimmerman scored 13 points and Brian Mason added 12 to lead South Carolina State to an easy 64-38 victory over Bethune-Cookman in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference game Saturday.
Bethune-Cookman trailed 37-28 at halftime, but shot only 13.6 percent from the field in the second half, managing only three baskets and four free throws during the final 20 minutes.
SCSU started the second half with a 10-3 run that put the Bulldogs up by 16 points, 47-31, with 11:35 to play. Mason later led a 15-0 run with six points, giving SCSU a 62-33 lead with 4:10 left.
Bethune-Cookman shot only 23.1 percent from the field for the game. The 10-point second half was the lowest output in a half by a Wildcat team since scoring only 12 points during a 70-26 loss at Nebraska on Dec. 20, 2003.
Michael Williams and Nicholas Berry led Bethune-Cookman with eight points apiece.
The win, only the second for SCSU in its last eight games, improved the Bulldogs' record to 9-8 overall and 3-4 in league play. Bethune-Cookman (6-10, 3-4 MEAC) lost its fourth straight.
