DAYTON, Ohio (AP) DaShaun Wood scored 28 points Wednesday night, including a pair of baskets in a late run that helped Wright State hold on for a 72-61 victory over Illinois-Chicago.
Wood made a jumper and a layup in a seven-point burst that helped Wright State (10-9, 5-3 Horizon) take control down the stretch. Jordan Pleiman added 19 points, going 8-for-8 from the field.
Jovan Stefanov led Illinois-Chicago (9-9, 4-4) with 20 points, but couldn't make a shot while the Raiders pulled away.
Stefanov scored 19 points in a back-and-forth first half - five ties, 11 lead changes, neither team ahead by more than seven. Drew Burleson's jumper with 8 seconds left put Wright State ahead to stay 33-32 at halftime. Stefanov missed all of his five shots from the field in the second half, managing only one free throw.
Wood opened the second half with a 3-pointer and a layup, and Pleiman had a pair of jumpers during an eight-point burst that gave the Raiders a 52-41 lead midway through the half.
After Illinois-Chicago cut the lead to four points, Wood made a jumper and a layup during a seven-point run that rebuilt the lead to 63-52 with 5:25 to go. Illinois-Chicago couldn't get closer than eight points the rest of the way.
