RICHMOND, Va. (AP) Ray Barbosa scored 11 of his 16 points in the second half Wednesday, leading James Madison's Dukes to a 66-58 upset over the Virginia Commonwealth Rams in Colonial Athletic Association basketball.
The Dukes (4-12, 2-6) took the lead for good 30-29 on two free throws by Jomo Belfor with 16:47 remaining.
After the Rams cut the margin to 51-47 with 6:45 remaining on a followup by Nick George, the Dukes received a free throw from Barbosa and a layup by David Cooper for a seven-point lead with 5:02 remaining, and the Rams could get no closer than six.
The Dukes hit 11-of-21 field goals in the second half and held the Rams to 33.9 percent for the game. Virginia Commonwealth (9-8, 5-3) entered the game leading the league in free throw percentage, but went just 15 of 25.
The Dukes, winning for the first time at Siegel Center, received 15 points from Belfor, a career-high 12 from Eddie Green-Long and 12 from Cooper.
Michael Doles led the Rams with 22 points, and George added 16.
