SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) Anthony Shavies scored 13 of his game-high 20 points in the second half to lead Southwest Missouri State to an 80-73 win over Creighton on Saturday.
Southwest Missouri (10-8, 4-6 Missouri Valley) extended its 33-27 halftime lead to 44-37 with 15:10 left.
Tyler McKinney scored to pull Creighton (13-8, 5-5) within 46-43 with 12:47 left.
Kellen Easley scored back-to-back baskets to give Southwest Missouri a 54-46 lead, and two baskets by Shavies made it 58-50 with 6:30 left.
A 3-pointer by McKinney with 4:37 left trimmed Southwest Missouri's lead to 62-58 with 4:37 left.
After two free throws by Creighton's Dane Watts made it 64-60 with 3:48 left, the Bluejays came up empty on four trips while Southwest Missouri went on a 5-0 run to lead 69-60 with 1:35 left.
Blake Ahearn scored 18 for Southwest Missouri and Nathan Bilyeu added 10. Jeffrey Day led Creighton with 20. Johnny Mathies had 14 and McKinney added 13.
Southwest Missouri shot 51 percent from the floor, while Creighton shot 45 percent.
