PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Kieron Achara scored a career-high 24 points and Bryant McAllister made two key free throws with 20 seconds left as Duquesne defeated La Salle 72-67 Saturday.
Jack Higgins added 12 points for the Dukes (6-14, 3-4 Atlantic 10), who converted on 15 of 16 free throws, all in the second half. Darnell Harris had 20 points and Steven Smith 19 for La Salle (5-13, 1-6), which lost its fifth in a row.
Duquesne led by as many as 14 points in the first half, and by 50-42 with 15:35 to play. La Salle then rallied to take its only lead of the game, 57-56, on a layup by Lewis Fadipe.
A 3-point shot by Martin Osimani gave the Dukes a 65-59 edge at the 4:16 mark, but the Explorers closed to within 68-67 on two free throws by Harris with 57 seconds to go, before McAllister hit his clinching foul shots.
