TOWSON, Md. (AP) -- Wendell Gibson recorded the fifth double-double of his career with 17 points and a career high 15 rebounds, leading Hofstra University to an 84-64 win over Towson University on Saturday.
Gibson went 7-for-11 from the floor to lead the Pride. He also made all three of his free throw attempts and blocked three shots. He helped Hofstra build a 40-33 halftime lead with eight point and eight rebounds.
Hofstra (12-6, 4-5 Colonial Athletic Association) shot 52 per cent from the floor en route to its eighth road victory of the season.
Leading by 32-30 with 2:29 left in the first half, Hofstra closed out the half with an 8-3 run as sophomore guard Carlos Rivera ended the half with a 3-point basket that beat the buzzer.
With 15:55 left in the game, sophomore guard Loren Stokes led Hofstra on a 7-0 run to open up a 54-39 lead.
The Pride, who shot 54 percent in the second half, extended its lead to as much as 83-61 with 3:27 remaining in the game on a layup by senior Mike Radziejewski.
Stokes was one of four Hofstra players to score in double figures in the win. He had a game high 21 points on 8-for-13 shooting from the floor. He also added eight rebounds, six assists and three steals.
Lawrence Hamm led the Tigers (5-14, 2-7) with 16 points and six rebounds. Sophomore guard Mike Green and sophomore forward Winstonn Tubbs each added 13 points. Green also had four assists and two steals while Tubbs had four rebounds.
