MUNCIE, Ind. -- Dennis Trammell scored 16 of his 24 points in the second half and Terrance Chapman had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds as Ball State beat Northern Illinois 67-59 Saturday.
Julien Mills added 16 points including 5-of-5 free-throw shooting for the Cardinals (10-6, 5-3 Mid-American Conference). Darren Yates added 10 points.
Ball State trailed 36-28 at the half as the Huskies (7-11, 3-7) outshot the Cardinals 52 percent to 26.5 percent before the break. Cory Sims led Northern Illinois with 13 points for the game.
The Cardinals stepped up their defense in the second half, holding the Huskies to 30.8 percent shooting while increasing their own mark to 44.8 percent to outscore Northern Illinois 39-23.
Ball State scored 15 points off 18 Northern Illinois turnovers, while the Huskies managed four points off the Cardinals' four turnovers.
