FARMVILLE, Va. -- Demeco Heath was 4-for-4 behind the arch and had 22 points with 10 rebounds as South Carolina St. held off several charges to beat Longwood 71-65 Saturday night.
Brian Mason added 12 for the Bulldogs (10-9), who outrebounded Longwood 44-33.
Maurice Sumter scored 23 for Longwood (1-21), who went on a 12-2 run to close it to within one at 34-33 at the half.
Longwood again had gotten to within one point in the second half until three consecutive 3-pointers put South Carolina St. up 54-44 with 12:02 remaining.
A final Longwood 10-0 run got it to within three at 66-63 with 39 seconds remaining, but South Carolina St. made 5-of-6 foul shots in the final seconds to put it out of reach.
