JONESBORO, Ark. (AP) -- Dewarick Spencer had 25 points and six 3-pointers to lead Arkansas State to a 88-61 victory over South Dakota State on Saturday.
J.J. Montgomery had 18 points and Lorenzo Hampton had 12. Steve Holdren led South Dakota State with 26 points and eight rebounds.
South Dakota State shot 44 percent from the field in the first half, adding 16.7 percent from 3-point range and 50 percent from the free three line. Arkansas State shot 48.1 percent from the field, 62.5 percent from the 3-point line and 88.9 percent in free throws. The score at the break was 39-25 with Arkansas State holiday a 14-point lead.
South Dakota State's shooting feel to 38.5 percent in the second half, while Arkansas State improved to 51.4 percent. The Indians, especially Spencer, were on fire from 3-point range, shooting 10-of-21 overall. Also contributing to South Dakota State's loss were 18 turnovers that Arkansas State turned into 24 points.
Arkansas State's bench contributed 21 points, while South Dakota State's had eleven points.
