BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP) -- Danny Rumph made three of four free throws in the final 20.6 seconds to help Western Kentucky escape with a 76-72 win over Arkansas State Saturday night.
Rumph made the first of two free throws at the 20.6 mark to put Western Kentucky (15-5, 5-3 Sun Belt Conference) ahead 74-72, then rebounded Dewarick Spencer's 3-point miss and made both free throws with 2.1 seconds to play to seal the win.
Arkansas State (13-9, 5-4 SBC) got a game-high 29 points from J.J. Montgomery.
Neither team held more than a five-point advantage in the second half.
The Hilltoppers took a 67-66 lead on Antonio Haynes' basket with 2:21 and stayed ahead for good.
Five players scored in double figures for Western Kentucky, led by freshman Courtney Lee's 18 points. Anthony Winchester added 17 points for Western Kentucky, while Rumph, Haynes and Elgrace Wilborn contributed 10 points apiece. In addition to Montgomery's effort, Spencer scored 21 for the Indians.
