DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) -- Diondre Larmond sank a baseline jump shot with 7.2 seconds to play, lifting Bethune-Cookman to a 71-70 triumph over Hampton on Saturday.
Larmond's winning basket came 13 seconds after he had swished two free throws to pull the Wildcats (9-11, 6-5 in a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) to within one point.
Between those free throws and that last bucket, Hampton's Dewayne Spencer missed the front side of a one-and-one free throw opportunity that would have cushioned the Pirates' 70-69 lead.
During that final 7.2 seconds, Hampton (9-11, 7-4) worked for a shot attempt but never got off a shot before time expired.
Antonio Webb, who had the assist to Larmond for the winning basket, finished as the game's top scorer with 25 points. Larmond netted 15 points.
Bruce Brown led the Pirates with 16 points, with Jeff Granger contributing 10.
Bethune-Cookman pushed from a two-point halftime deficit, 35-33, to a seven-point advantage, 60-53, with 7:36 to play _ mostly behind the outside shooting of Webb, who finished with six three-pointers in eight tries.
But the Pirates came back behind Brown and held the lead until Larmond's final four points of the game.
