SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Matt Gibson scored 19 of his career-high 23 points in the second half, and Hawaii snapped an eight-game road losing streak in conference play with an 84-73 victory over San Jose State on Saturday.
Julian Sensley had 22 points and eight rebounds, and Jake Sottos added 17 points for the Warriors (13-5, 5-5 WAC), who made a season-high 13 3-pointers _ all by their top three scorers. They hit 65 percent of their shots in the second half, including five 3-pointers by Gibson, in their highest-scoring performance of the season.
Sottos also made five 3-pointers and Sensley added three as Hawaii's perimeter proficiency was enough to hold off San Jose State in a high-scoring second half.
Marquin Chandler scored 32 points, hitting all five of his 3-point attempts while playing all 40 minutes for the Spartans (6-13, 3-7), whose two-game winning streak was snapped. San Jose State has won three straight WAC games just once since joining the conference in 1996.
Led by four 3-pointer from Sottos, Hawaii took a 12-point halftime lead. The Warriors went up 54-37 on Sensley's 3-pointer with 15:36 to play, but San Jose State scored the next 14 points.
Sensley then scored nine quick points to keep the Warriors ahead, and Gibson hit back-to-back 3-pointers and another basket in the final minutes. The Warriors made nine of their 10 free throws in the final 1:10 to seal just their second win in six road games this season.
Chandler followed up his 33-point performance against Rice last week with another outstanding game, but his teammates couldn't keep up. Kareem Gilbeaux added 10 points for San Jose State, but second-leading scorer Alex Elam was held to five points and third-leading scorer Michael McFadden went 2-for-11.
