FAIRFAX, Va. (AP)_ Tony Skinn scored 15 points and George Mason made 29 of 30 free throws to beat James Madison 89-67 Saturday night.
The 96.7 percent free-throw shooting by the Patriots (12-9, 7-5 Colonial Athletic Association) was by far the best of the season for a team that entered the game shooting 67 percent from the foul line in conference play.
When the Patriots weren't at the line, they managed to string together one run after another, overwhelming the Dukes (4-16, 2-10) with 49 percent shooting from the floor and eight 3-pointers.
Ray Barbosa and Cavell Johnson scored 14 points each for James Madison, which pulled within 10 on David Cooper's dunk 3:28 from halftime.
The Patriots, however, outscored James Madison 12-4 the rest of the half to take a 43-26 lead. They went on a 14-4 run early in the second push the lead to 24.
Lamar Butler and John Vaughan each had 13 for the Patriots, who hit all 19 of their free throws in the second half and 26 straight in the game.
James Madison, which has now lost four straight and seven of its last eight, turned the ball over 14 times and was never closer than 14 after halftime.
