PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- E.J. Rowland hit an 8-foot jumper with 11 seconds remaining to give Saint Mary's a 73-72 victory over Portland on Saturday night.
Paul Marigney led the Gaels (20-6, 7-2 West Coast Conference) with 24 points, including a game-tying basket with 54 seconds remaining. Saint Mary's ended the game with an 11-3 run.
Rowland finished with 16 points. He followed his clutch shot with a defensive gem to seal the win, knocking the ball loose from Portland's Pooh Jeter with 3 seconds left.
Jeter led the Pilots (14-10 3-6) with 19 points, including four 3-pointers.
Marigney fouled out trying to stop Jeter in the final minute. The Pilots' point guard then hit one of two free throws to give his team its final lead at 72-71, setting up Rowland's two clutch plays at the end.
