TUCSON, Ariz. -- Salim Stoudamire took Stanford's recent success in Tucson personally.
The senior guard, who was 2-5 against Stanford before Saturday, had 20 of his 26 points in the second half of No. 14 Arizona's 90-72 victory over the Cardinal.
"They have beaten me the three previous times (at home)," Stoudamire said. "I told (Chris) Hernandez I had to get him sometime. It feels great. I want to go out and party."
Channing Frye had 15 points and 13 rebounds, Hassan Adams and Chris Rodgers scored 13 each and Ivan Radenovic had 10 points.
Frye also tied his season high with four blocks, leading a strong defensive effort that lifted the Wildcats (19-4, 9-2 Pac-10) to their 16th win in 18 games and earned coach Lute Olson his 299th conference win -- second only to John Wooden's 304.
"It was by far the best back-to-back games that we have had all year," Olson said. "I think Stanford had difficulty scoring and getting good looks."
The Wildcats beat California 97-76 on Thursday, coming back strong after a 70-63 loss to Washington State -- their first home loss in 18 years to a team with a losing record.
"Right now, we're trying to stay consistent," said Frye, who has scored in double figures 14 consecutive games. "Two games is good; how about three? How about four? I would be fooling myself if I said this was going to make or break our season, but this is a good step forward."
Dan Grunfeld had 23 points for the Cardinal, Hernandez scored 13 and Matt Haryasz had 12 before fouling out.
The Cardinal (12-9, 6-5) had beaten Arizona their last four trips to McKale Center and won their last three against the Wildcats overall.
"The bottom line is they were really, really good," Stanford coach Trent Johnson said. "They had some guys coming out today with a lot of energy. They made some shots early, got some separation and we had to play from behind, which isn't what we do best."
Stoudamire, who was 5-of-9 on 3-pointers, came out of the game after his three-point play lifted Arizona to an 88-66 lead with 2:16 left.
The Wildcats began the second half with an eight-point lead and never let Stanford get closer.
Frye found room underneath for a layup with 15:04 left for a 51-38 lead, matching Arizona's biggest of the first half, and added a three-point play 36 seconds later for a 54-40 lead.
Then Stoudamire scored seven points in a 2:56 span, sending the Wildcats to a 73-53 lead with 8:40 remaining and making up for the absence of Frye, who picked up his fourth foul with 11:16 left.
Arizona used an 11-2 surge in the first half to open up a close game.
Radenovic made a layup with 7:49 remaining to start the run, and Frye completed it with another layup after a spin move in the lane, giving the Wildcats a 33-21 lead with 5:13 to go.
Adams turned a steal into a layup during the spurt and did the same with 1:39 left to open a 40-27 lead.
But in the final 21 seconds, Hernandez made a 3-pointer and Jason Haas stole the ball at midcourt and sank a buzzer-beating layup to get the Cardinal within 42-34 at halftime.
"It was neck-and-neck for a while in the beginning," Grunfeld said. "They got some good shots. That's the way the game goes -- when you make some 3s, you get some momentum."
