LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Ian Boylan scored 25 points and Davin White added 13 off the bench as Cal State Northridge beat UC Irvine 79-60 Saturday night.
The Matadors (12-9, 9-3 Big West Conference) shot 53.3 percent from the field and went 7-for-9 behind the 3-point line.
Ross Schraeder had 14 points to lead UC Irvine (10-9, 4-7), which trailed 36-23 at halftime and was never able to get to within single digits in the second half.
Northridge took advantage of Irvine's first-half foul trouble by making 10 of 15 free throws, then drew five fouls on its first six possessions of the second half. After the fifth foul, Irvine coach Pat Douglass was called for a technical foul after arguing with an official.
Austin Waggener drew Irvine's sixth foul two minutes later and completed a three-point play to cap an 11-2 Northridge run that gave the Matadors a 23-point lead, 56-33, with 13:19 left.
The margin hovered around 20 points the rest of the way.
With the win, the Matadors remained in second place, three games behind Pacific in the Big West standings.
Northridge closed the first half with a 12-2 to take a 13-point lead into the break. Seven Matador points during that stretch came on free throws.
