SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) -- Tyler Chaney scored 17 points to lead Southwest Missouri State to an 80-66 win over Bradley on Wednesday.
Southwest Missouri State (13-8, 7-6 Missouri Valley) overcame 36 percent (21-of-58) from the field thanks in part to the 29 fouls called against Bradley (11-10, 4-9). The Bears were 32-of-38 (84 percent) from the free-throw line, including a technical called against Bradley coach Jim Les for arguing a non-call with 15:42 left.
Southwest Missouri led for much of the game, taking a 35-29 halftime lead and expanding it to 42-31 with 17:26 left in the game after a quick scoring burst early in the second half.
Bradley made one last charge when Tony Bennett scored eight unanswered points to pull the Braves to within 64-57 with 5:08 left, but Southwest Missouri went on a short 6-2 run to increase its lead 70-59 with 2:30 left.
Chaney was one of five Bears to finish in double figures. Tamarr Maclin had 13 points and 13 rebounds for Southwest Missouri, Deke Thompson had 13 points, Anthony Shavies had 12 and Blake Ahearn added 11. Kellen Easly had eight points and 11 rebounds.
Marcellus Sommerville led the Braves with 23 points. Bennett finished with 16.
