NEW ORLEANS (AP) -- Quincy Davis scored 15 points and hit a free throw in the final seconds to give Tulane a 75-72 victory over Southern Miss Wednesday night.
Tulane (9-12, 3-7 Conference USA) held a 74-67 lead with 20.7 seconds remaining after two Davis free throws and one from Ben Benfield. But Southern Miss (10-12, 1-8) battled back.
Rashaad Carruth nailed a 3-pointer with 15.1 seconds to go and then the Golden Eagles' press forced a turnover in the backcourt. Michael Ford was fouled, but the Golden Eagle guard missed both free throws.
Mildon Ambres snagged the offensive rebound and banked it in from just inside the foul line to make it 74-72 with 2.7 seconds remaining. After Ambres' putback, Davis was fouled and hit 1 of 2 free throws to give the Wave a 3-point advantage.
Coming out of a timeout, Southern Miss found Carruth at midcourt, but the junior transfer was called for traveling just before the final buzzer.
Carruth led Southern Miss with 24 points. Ford added 22 and Dante Stiggers finished with 11.
Chris Moore had 13 points for Tulane and Benfield added 10.
