PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- B.A. Walker scored 15 points and hit what proved to be the game-winning free throws with 44.9 seconds remaining to lift Virginia Commonwealth to a 62-59 win over Drexel on Wednesday night.
Virginia Commonwealth (9-4 Colonial Athletic Association, 13-9) led by as much as 12 points in the second half, but Drexel (8-5, 12-9) used a 17-5 run to tie the game 41-41 with 12:14 remaining.
Nick George, fouled while attempting a 3-point field goal with 2:53 remaining, hit two of three free throws to give the Rams a 56-54 lead. Drexel was held without a field goal for 2:54 until Bashir Mason hit a 3-pointer with 20.1 seconds remaining to cut the Rams' lead to 62-59.
The Dragons had one last chance after George missed two free throws with 6.7 seconds remaining, but Mason's last-chance 3-pointer at the buzzer did not fall.
Phil Goss led Drexel with a game-high 24 points and was 5-for-9 from 3-point range. Sean Brooks added 10 points off the bench for the Dragons.
Michael Doles scored 14 points and George put in 10 points for the Rams. Jesse Pellot-Rosa scored 10 points and pulled down 11 rebounds for Virginia Commonwealth.
