MURRAY, Ky. (AP) - Murray State University overcame a 14-point deficit and outscored Austin Peay in the second half to win 82-73 on Saturday.
Trey Pearson had a team-high 27 points for Murray State (13-9, 8-4 Ohio Valley Conference), who trailed the Governors 38-24 at halftime.
Austin Peay had its biggest lead of the game, 39-24, with 18:39 to play after a freethrow by Ryan Isom. But then the Racers went on a 15-0 run as Murray State took a 45-41 lead with 12:58 to play in Ohio Valley Conference Action.
The two teams exchanged blows when Austin Peay gained a one-point lead with 11:15 remaining.
The Racers fought back and retook the lead 51-49 with 11:00 to play and built a 10-point lead Murray State wouldn't relinquish.
Shawn Witherspoon and Justin Orr tallied 12 points for the Racers and Issian Redding added 10 points to finish in double figures.
Maurice Hampton scored a game-high 27 points for Austin Peay (9-15, 7-5), while fellow teammates Anthony Davis (14), Todd Babington (12) and William Durden (10) also scored in double digits.
Murray State shot 67 percent in the second half and held Austin Peay to 35 percent after the Governors shot 65 percent, going 13-for-20 from the field in the first half.
The Racers also forced 17 turnovers and used the miscues to their advantage getting 28 points off turnovers. Meanwhile, Murray State shot 33 percent in the first half and only turned the ball over nine times in the game.
