STANFORD, Calif. (AP) -- Matt Haryasz scored 12 of his 18 points in the second half to lead Stanford to a 71-56 victory over California on Saturday.

Dan Grunfeld added 16 points for the Cardinal (13-9, 7-5 Pac-10) despite missing most of the second half with a knee injury. Rob Little had 11 points and 10 rebounds and Chris Hernandez added 13 points as Stanford beat Cal at home for the 12th straight time.

David Paris had 18 points and nine rebounds for the Bears (12-10, 5-7), who have dropped 15 of their last 17 games against Stanford. Rod Benson added 15 points.

Richard Midgley, Cal's leading scorer, started for the first time in seven games. He missed three games with a sprained shoulder and came off the bench in his three previous appearances.

Grunfeld was helped into the locker room with 15:16 remaining, favoring his right knee after falling awkwardly when his layup attempt was blocked by Midgley. Grunfeld, who leads the Cardinal in scoring, has reached double figures in 20 of his last 22 games.

Grunfeld, who suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligamen in his right knee, will miss the remainder of the season. The injury will require surgery, but no date has been set.

With both teams fighting to keep their NCAA tournament hopes alive, the rivalry game was a little extra spirited. Stanford students arrived an hour early and heckled Cal players throughout warmups, and both bands tried to drown each other out.

Tiger Woods, a Stanford alum, was in attendance sporting his Cardinal "Sixth-Man" T-shirt. Former Heisman Trophy winner Jim Plunkett also watched from his courtside seat.

Stanford took its first double-digit lead at 66-54 when Haryasz made two free throws and then a layup with 1:30 left.
