LORETTO, Pa. (AP) -- Rodney Gibson tipped in Darshan Luckey's missed 3-pointer at the buzzer to give St. Francis, Pa., a 76-75 win over Fairleigh Dickinson on Saturday night.
Down 75-74, St. Francis (13-10, 8-6 Northeast Conference) inbounded from under its own basket with 1.9 seconds left.
Gibson heaved a long pass to Luckey, who came up short on a 24-foot shot. On a play resembling North Carolina State's winning bucket in the 1983 national championship game over Houston, Gibson caught the short shot and tipped it home to give the Red Flash the improbable win.
Fairleigh Dickinson protested that the shot came after the buzzer, but officials ruled immediately that it was good. Luckey scored 27 points, Jason Osborne 16 and Gibson 11 for St. Francis, which led by as many as 14 points in the second half.
Gordon Klaiber scored 20 of his 22 points in the second half to lead Fairleigh Dickinson back. Klaiber scored in the lane with 31 seconds left to give the Knights (14-10, 10-3) the 75-74 lead. Tamien Trent also had 22 points for Fairleigh Dickinson.
