NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) -- Freshman Eric Flato came off the bench to score 13 points and blocked David Giovacchini's shot attempt at the buzzer to lead Yale to a 54-53 win over Harvard on Saturday.
Edwin Draughan had 13 points for Yale (7-12, 3-3 Ivy League), but missed a free throw with 5 seconds left to set up Giovacchini's last second attempt. Giovacchini lost his footing racing up the court just inside the three-point line, before attempting an off-balanced jumper.
Giovacchini finished with 11 points for the Crimson (9-12, 4-4).
Dominick Martin had 12 points, including two free throws, the game's final points, with 1:21 left to put Yale ahead 54-53. He also had seven rebounds.
The game was tied at 41-41 with 10:59 left. Yale scored the next nine points, followed by a 12-2 run by Harvard to go up 53-52 with 2:28 on a Brian Cusworth basket. Cusworth finished with 12 points.
