DALLAS (AP) -- Byron Hopkins scored 27 points to lead SMU past Hawaii 71-65 Saturday night.
SMU (11-10, 6-7 Western Athletic) had a 43-23 rebounding advantage.
Jake Sottos scored 17 points for Hawaii (13-7, 5-7).
The Mustangs shot 51 percent (24-of-47) from the floor.
SMU's Patrick Simpson had 14 points and 10 rebounds, Eric Castro had 10 points and Justin Isham added nine points and 11 rebounds.
Hawaii's Justin Sensley scored 14 points, and Bobby Nash and Matt Gibson each had 10.
Hopkins was 6-of-12 from the floor and 13-of-17 from the foul line.
The Mustangs led 32-27 at halftime.
