LEXINGTON, Va. (AP) -- Chad Mohn scored a season high 19 points and K.J. Garland added 15 to lead N.C.-Asheville to a 77-72 victory over VMI Saturday in Lexington.
The Bulldogs (9-14, 6-6 Big South) led 33-26 at halftime, but the Keydets (6-16, 0-11 Big South) fought back in the second half to cut it to 4 with just 12 seconds to go. But Matt Coward missed a layup with 5 seconds to go and Sean Christiansen missed a 3-pointer with 3 seconds left.
Matt Coward and Sean Christiansen each scored 13 points for VMI. Tim Allmond had 11 and Reggie Williams had 9 before fouling out in the closing seconds of the game.
Oliver Holmes added 13 for Asheville and Omar Collington had 11.
