TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) -- Florentino Valencia scored 13 points and started and ended a 21-2 first-half run with baskets to lead Toledo to a 74-58 victory over Northern Illinois on Saturday.
After Northern Illinois' Bryson McKenzie tied the game at 14 with a layup with 11:30 left in the opening half, the Rockets (12-10, 8-5 Mid-American Conference) took over. Seven players scored for Toledo and the Huskies (9-13, 5-9) went without a basket for almost 8 minutes.
The Rockets led 42-26 at the half and the lead never dropped below 17 points in the final 15 minutes.
Anton Currie led Toledo with 15 points, with Keith Triplett adding 14 and Justin Ingram 12. Triplett, Valencia and Kashif Payne each had two baskets in the run.
The Rockets hit 59 percent of their shots from the field in the opening half (20 of 34) and finished at 56 percent (35 of 63).
Mike McKinney scored 15 points, James Hughes 12 and Cory Sims 10 for Northern Illinois.
