Memphis 103, Tulane 71

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) -- Rodney Carney scored 28 points, leading a Memphis 3-point barrage, as the Tigers defeated Tulane 103-71 on Saturday afternoon.

Carney started fast and connected on 8-of-19 shots from the field and Memphis (15-10, 8-3 Conference USA) hit 12-of-24 from long range in winning its second straight and fifth in the past six games. It marked the first time the Tigers had surpassed the century mark since a 102-81 victory over UAB in 2002.

Tulane (9-13, 3-8) has dropped three of the last four.

Five Tigers were in double figures. Besides Carney, Darius Washington hit all but one of his six shots for 16 points and added nine assists. Jeremy Hunt finished with 14, while Anthony Rice and Waki Williiams scored 13 apiece.

Quincy Davis led the Green Wave with 28 points and 11 rebounds, while Ivan Pjevcevic scored 13. Tulane was hindered by a 36 percentage shooting performance. Outside of Davis' 10-of-18 from the floor, the rest of the Green Wave starters were a combined 5-of-28.

Memphis opened a 20-point lead at the half, and piled it on in the early stages of the second half. By the time Tulane coach Shawn Finney called timeout in hopes of stopping the momentum, Memphis had a 66-38 lead with 16:46 left and the game was in hand. Tulane never got the Tiger lead under 25 the rest of the way.

Memphis relied on Carney early and the 3-point shot throughout the first half to take a 56-36 lead, the most points scored by the Tigers in a half this season.

Carney had Memphis' first 11 points, hitting all three of his shots from behind the arc, to erase a quick Tulane start. Carney wasn't the only Tiger hitting from long-range as Memphis connected on 10-of-15 from 3-point range in the first half.

The Tigers created some distance with a 10-0 run beginning with about nine minutes left in the half. Memphis closed the half with a 17-5 spurt in the final 4:39.

Carney collected 18 in the half, while Rice added 13, missing only one of his six shots from the field.

Davis led Tulane with 16, while Pjevcevic scored 13.
