ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) -- James Shuler scored a career-high 25 points as Winthrop beat High Point 74-66 on Saturday.
The Eagles (22-5, 13-1 Big South Conference) led by 12 at halftime, but the Panthers slowly got back into the game, trailing just 60-57 with seven minutes to go.
Then two free throws by Shuler sparked a 7-2 run by Winthrop and High Point (12-15, 7-7) would never get closer.
Torrell Martin scored 14 points and Chris Gaynor had nine points and seven assists for the Eagles.
Titus Byrd led the Panthers with 17 points and Zione White added 11.
Winthrop drew a record home crowd of 5,254 fans after coach Gregg Marshall recently complained about low attendance.
The Eagles have already clinched the Big South regular season title.
