AKRON, Ohio (AP) -- Rick McFadden scored 18 points and Akron limited Niagara to 33-percent shooting from the field in a 74-68 win on Saturday night.
McFadden was 4-of-7 on 3-pointers to lead the Zips (16-7), who were 13-of-24 behind the arc and only 16-of-34 inside it.
Darryl Peterson and Rob Preston each came off the bench to score 12 points, with Dru Joyce adding 11 points. Romeo Travis had 10 rebounds.
David Brooks led Niagara (17-8) with 27 points, with Juan Mendez adding 16 and Alvin Cruz 13.
The Purple Eagles hit 20-of-60 from the field and 7-of-22 3-pointers. They stayed in the game with free-throw shooting, making 21-of-30 while Akron was going to the line just eight times and making three.
Akron led 38-30 at the half but Niagara took the lead on Cruz's layup with 6:20 left. Joyce countered with a basket to retake the lead and then McFadden hit a 3-pointer and a layup to extend the lead.
