PRINCESS ANNE, Md. (AP) -- Chakowby Hicks scored 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Norfolk State beat the University of Maryland Eastern Shore 68-52 on Saturday.
Norfolk State (12-2, 10-5 MEAC) had a 13-2 run to start the game, holding UMES (2-22, 1-14 MEAC) to one field goal in the first five minutes.
UMES was led by Corey Brown with 18 points. Aly Samabaly added 11, and Terrell Harris had nine. UMES shot 30 percent from the field in the loss.
UMES missed their final eight shots of the first half, helping Norfolk State to a 21-point lead at halftime, 38-17.
UMES opened the second half on a 10-3 run, as Norfolk State committed three turnovers and two fouls in a four-minute span.
But a lay-up at 1:19 made it a 16-point lead for Norfolk State.
