NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Jared Newson scored 16 points in Tennessee-Martin's 74-68 victory over Tennessee State on Saturday.
The Skyhawks (6-19, 3-11 Ohio Valley Conference) and Tennessee State were tied five times in the second half, but UT-Martin broke away in the last five minutes.
The Tigers (12-16, 7-7) led 65-64 with 4:32 left, but a dunk by Will Lewis at with 3:08 remaining put Tennessee-Martin up for good.
The Skyhawks shot 42.9 percent (6-of-14) from outside the arc while holding Tennessee State to 24 percent (6-of-25) 3-point shooting.
Lewis finished with 13 points, Justin Smith and Cleve Woodfork scored 11 points each and Ferrell had 10.
Tennessee State was led in scoring by Wayne Arnold and Reiley Ervin with 14 points each. Kareem Grant added 13 and Roshaun Bowens had 12.
