BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- Jakob Sigurdarson scored a game-high 17 points to lead Birmingham-Southern to a 60-48 victory over VMI on Saturday night.
VMI (8-17, 2-12 Big South Conference) grabbed a 13-12 lead with 11:10 to go in the first half and led 32-26 at halftime. The Keydets led 45-39 with 8:44 to play. But the Panthers (14-12, 6-8) held VMI to just one field goal for the rest of the game.
Sigurdarson scored four straight points to cut the lead to two and Augustinas Vitas narrowed it to one at 46-58 with 5:04 left on the clock. The Panthers took a 48-46 lead on 3-pointer by James Collins.
Sigurdarson added a layup and two free throws, and Bucky McMillan hit a driving layup with 1:24 to play that gave the Panthers a 55-46 lead.
Collins scored 12 points for the Panthers and Vitas had 10 points and eight rebounds.
Reggie Williams and Matt Coward each had 12 points for VMI.
VMI shot 43.2 percent from the field and the Panthers shot 39.6 percent.
