Chet Mason added 13 points and William Hatcher had 11 for the RedHawks (17-6), who outscored the Shockers 9-3 over the final 1:27 after Wichita State (18-6) cut a 10-point deficit down to one.

Wichita State never led and missed a chance to go ahead when Kyle Wilson failed to connect on a 3-pointer with 2:01 remaining. Wilson led the Shockers with 15 points off the bench and Paul Miller had 12.

After Wilson's missed 3, Nate Vandersluis hit two free throws to give Miami a 58-55 lead. Miller made one of two at the line for Wichita State before Mason drove for a layup and Horace hit two foul shots to put the RedHawks up 62-56 with 36 seconds remaining.

Mason went 3-for-4 at the line over the last 20 seconds to seal Miami's win. The RedHawks went 13-for-16 at the line, while the Shockers managed to hit only 12 of 21.

Miami shot 51.1 percent from the field to 40.8 percent for Wichita State.

The Shockers trailed from the opening moments and managed to tie the game only once -- at 2-2. They went on a 9-0 run to trim a 54-44 deficit to 54-53 with 4:35 remaining and got within one again a minute later at 56-55, but could never take the lead.
