NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- James Poindexter made a layup with 20 seconds left to give Lipscomb a 59-58 victory Tuesday over crosstown rival Belmont.
Poindexter hit a 3-pointer with 25 seconds remaining to pull Lipscomb within 58-57. Belmont's Adrian Jones missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have won it.
Lipscomb (15-11, 10-9 Atlantic Sun), winning its third straight, stayed alive for the eight-team conference tournament. Belmont (12-15, 11-8) also remains alive in the tight race.
Eddie Ard led Lipscomb with 16 points and made 8 of 12 from the floor. Poindexter finished with 11 as the only other Bison player in double figures.
Justin Hare paced Belmont with 15 points and Dan Oliver had 14.
There were 12 lead changes in the game, though Lipscomb led most of the first half.
Belmont's biggest lead was eight at 51-43 with 7:23 left on a 3-pointer by Hare.
