NORFOLK, Va. (AP) -- Aaron Williams and Jahsha Bluntt each had 16 points as Delaware State defeated Norfolk State 72-68 in Mid-Eastern Atlantic Conference basketball on Saturday.
The Hornets (14-13, 12-4) hit 10-of-18 3-pointers, and Bluntt was 4-for-7 from behind the arc.
Norfolk State's (12-12, 10-6) Calvin Brown tried to fight off the Hornets' 3-pointers for the first 5½ minutes, as he scored six of Norfolk State's first 10 points while Bluntt sank two 3-pointers and Troy Roundtree had one.
Norfolk State had its last lead at 16-15 with 9:09 to go in the half, but Delaware State pulled ahead to take a 32-24 lead at the break.
A dunk by Jahsha Bluntt gave Delaware State its biggest lead at 42-31 with 14:57 remaining. A 13-4 Norfolk State run put the score at 46-44 with 10:20 left to play. Delaware pulled ahead by as many as eight again before the Spartans could dwindle the lead back down to two at 62-60 with 51 seconds remaining.
Both teams took advantage of free throws, and Karandick Ogunride's layup made it 71-68 with 8 seconds left to play. A foul from Tony Murphy put Roundtree on the line with 7 seconds remaining. Roundtree made one of his two shots, and Murphy missed a 3-pointer with 4 seconds left to finish the game.
Murphy scored 18 of his career-high 25 points in the second half. Brown added 14.
Terrance Hunter scored 14 for the Hornets, and Bruce Davis came off the bench to add 10.
