NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Corey Smith scored 15 points and had four assists and Vanderbilt shook off a sluggish start to defeat Georgia 65-37 on Saturday.
Shan Foster and Dawid Przybyszewski each added 10 points for Vanderbilt (17-11, 7-7 Southeastern Conference), which put together one of its best defensive performances of the season. The Commodores held Georgia (8-17, 2-12) to 29 percent shooting and forced 20 turnovers as the Bulldogs registered a season-low point total.
Vanderbilt shot 51 percent and outrebounded Georgia 35-27.
Younes Idrissi led Georgia with nine points. The Bulldogs struggled offensively all day, making their first two 3-pointers before missing their final 11.
Vanderbilt, which has won four straight at home against Georgia, trailed 17-14 with five minutes remaining in the first half, then went on a 16-2 run to close the half and take control. Foster hit a 3-pointer with 2 seconds to play before halftime to give Vanderbilt a 30-19 lead.
The Commodores picked up where they left off after halftime, ripping off a 20-6 run to open the second half to put the game out of reach and giving Vanderbilt its fourth SEC win of 20 points or more this season.
Vanderbilt is hoping to return to the NCAA Tournament in back-to-back seasons for the first time since 1988-89.
Georgia defeated Vanderbilt 68-59 on Jan. 22, one of just two SEC victories for the Bulldogs this season.
