BEAUMONT, Texas (AP) -- Joe Thompson scored 25 points and Chris Jordan scored eight points in a key second-half run to help Sam Houston State beat Lamar 88-70 Saturday afternoon.
Sam Houston State (17-9, 11-3 Southland Conference) has won eight of its past nine games.
Lamar (16-10, 8-7) hit just 1-of-19 3-pointers.
The Bearkats led 41-38 at halftime, but went on a 19-5 run over the first eight minutes of the second half to take a 62-43 lead. Jordan capped the surge with a layup and jumper.
The Cardinals got no closer than 11 points the rest of the way.
Nashid Beard, Blake Whittle and Thomas Fairley all scored 14 points for Lamar. Fairley also grabbed 15 rebounds.
Wilder Auguste had 19 points and nine rebounds for Lamar, and Ryan Bright added 11.
