AMHERST, Mass. (AP) -- Stephane Lasme scored 14 of his 16 points from the free throw line, including two with 12.7 seconds left, as Massachusetts beat Duquesne 69-64 on Saturday.
The win and Fordham's loss to Saint Joseph's clinched third place in the Atlantic 10 East for the Minutemen (16-11, 9-7 Atlantic 10). They will play La Salle on Wednesday in the first round of the A-10 Tournament in Cincinnati.
Lasme made all 14 of his free throw attempts, tying a school record, and led the Minutemen with 11 rebounds. Rashaun Freeman added 16 points and nine rebounds for UMass.
Bryant McAllister led the Dukes (8-21, 5-11) with 14 points. Kieron Achara scored 13 points and DeVario Hudson added 12.
UMass led most of the game and held a 56-45 lead with 9:25 remaining. But Duquesne went on an 8-0 run to close the gap to 56-53 with 4:21 left, and cut the lead to 64-62 with 1:15 left on Hudson's layup.
Duquesne had two chances to tie in the final minute, but Martin Osimani missed a lay-up with 48 seconds left and McAlister missed a 3-pointer with 18 seconds left.
