RICHMOND, Va. -- Loren Stokes scored eight of his career-high 31 points over the final 6:55 Saturday and Hofstra beat Drexel for the first time in three tries this season, 89-77 in the Colonial Athletic Association quarterfinals.
The Pride (21-7) stretched its winning streak to seven and broke an eight-game losing streak against the Dragons. Hofstra will play top-seeded Old Dominion (26-5) in the semifinals on Sunday. The Monarchs beat William & Mary 64-51 earlier Saturday.
Drexel allowed a season-high in points and fell to 17-11.
The Pride took a 54-53 lead with 13:06 to go on a three-point play by Wendell Gibson. The play was part of a 12-2 run that gave Hofstra a 63-55 lead with 9:00 to play.
After Drexel rebounded to within 65-61, Antoine Agudio hit two free throws and a 3-pointer and Stokes hit two free throws to give the Pride a 72-63 lead with 5:23 left.
The Dragons came no closer than seven thereafter.
Stokes also grabbed seven rebounds and had seven assists in 39 minutes. Agudio added 19 points, and Mike Radziejewski and Gibson each had 16 points and seven rebounds.
Phil Goss led Drexel with 18 points. Kenell Sanchez added 17, Dominick Mejia 14 and Sean Brooks 12.
