VESTAL, N.Y. -- Chris Markwood's 3-point shot with 2.2 seconds remaining
lifted
Chaz Carr had made two free throws with nine seconds left to put the Terriers ahead 45-44 after Markwood fouled Carr away from the ball. After a Maine timeout, Markwood took an inbound pass, dribbled to the three-point line, spun around looking for another option, found none, and put up an uncontested shot that never touched the rim.
Carr's final shot missed as time expired.
Sixth-seeded Maine (14-14) will play second-seeded Northeastern on Sunday in the semifinals.
The lead changed hands six times in the final 2:32, beginning with Boston's Rashad Bell breaking a 39-39 tie with a leaning shot in the lane.
The third-seeded Terriers (20-8) lost in the quarterfinals for a second consecutive season. They were upset by eighth-seeded Stony Brook last season.
