SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Coric Riggs had 22 points to help fifth-seed Weber State beat fourth-seed Sacramento State 74-71 in the first round of the Big Sky Conference Tournament Saturday night.
Lance Allred added 18 points and 14 rebounds for the Wildcats (13-15), which eliminated Sacramento State from post-conference play for the third straight season.
Jason Harris had 25 points, and DaShawn Freeman added 13 for the Hornets (12-16), which finished with a 10-4 record at home.
After Jason Harris hit two free throws early in the first half for Sacramento State, Weber State reeled off 18 unanswered baskets to take an 18-2 lead.
Sacramento State didn't hit a shot from the field until Jason Harris scored on a 3-point shot at the 12:44 mark.
When Weber State's scoring attack cooled off, Sacramento State came back to trail 33-27 at the half after Freeman hit a layup with two seconds left on the clock.
The Wildcats never made it to the free-throw line in the first half.
In the second half, Freeman's 3-point shot tied the game at 64 at the 6:18 mark. Weber State retook the lead and went up by five, but Sacramento State came back to trail 71-70 after Freeman hit another basket with 1:30 to play.
Freshman Randy Adams missed two free throws with 21 seconds left that could have given Sacramento State the lead. Terrell Stovall made two free throws and Lance Allred made one before he was ejected for taunting the crowd with six seconds left to give Weber State the victory.
Weber State will play Portland State Tuesday in the second round.
